Translation --> app. 2,000 words a day
Editing --> 700 - 1,000 words per hour
Translations and editing comprise the majority of my workload. A large portion of job requests I receive are mostly for translations or editing.
Editing is an important step in quality control. Depending on several factors, I edit 700 - 1,000 words per hour where I read the target text and the source text. Some of the factors may be the time spent for reading and digesting reference materials.
PROOFREADING
Proofreading--> 2,000 words per hour
Proofreading is more like bilingual review and editing. In this sense, proofreading is more like reading a near final draft only for typographical errors and pointing out awkward sections or missing text. I proofread 2,000 words per hour, where I only need to read the target text without referring to the source text. When I proofread, I carefully read the final draft, check each word, punctuation mark, capitalization and spelling errors.
